What is a nurse practitioner?

A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has completed advanced education (minimally of a masters’ degree) and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions, including chronic illnesses.  A nurse practitioner may provide a broad range of health care services.  They work closely with the physician whom is the supervisor of the nurse practitioner.  They are also known as physician extenders.

Nurse practitioners can see patients of all ages.  They are able to diagnosis, treat, and monitor many disease processes.  A nurse practitioner will focus on the patient as an individual and form a treatment plan.

Nurse practitioners are able to evaluate patient, order tests, and prescribe medications within their scope of practice

The nurse practitioners work closely with Dr. Martinez as he reviews their plans and discusses their treatment recommendations.  He has an excellent working relationship with our nurse practitioners.
